A recent Wall Street Journal poll of American voters in swing states found that while people think the national economy is in bad shape, they feel good about their personal finances. In Gallup polling from last April, just 16% rated the economy as “good” or “excellent,” but 45% said their personal finances were “good” or “excellent.”But according to available data the economy has improved. But the dichotomy between how people feel about their own finances and the economy at large presents a different conundrum. It’s important to look at consumer behavior and not just sentiment when determining how Americans feel about the economy, said Harris. Those behaviors signal that Americans, overall, actually feel pretty good about their economy.

Caldwell, Idaho CNN —Jen and John Adkins never expected to have to send a package like this. Idaho’s abortion laws meant they had to seek care across state lines after receiving devastating news about a much-wanted pregnancy. “As soon as that ultrasound technician put that wand on my stomach and I saw the baby on the screen, I knew something was wrong,” Jen told CNN. “I was sent home to grieve and mourn and call around to see if we could get an appointment out of state,” Jen said. The move, he said, was for personal reasons: “Boise is a wonderful place in general,” he told CNN via email.

Coste, who turns 100 on Thursday, won a track cycling Olympic gold in the team pursuit with Pierre Adam, Serge Blusson and Fernand Decanali. “It was a great honor to receive the medal from President Auriol, but the most valuable one is the Olympic medal,” Coste told Reuters. Coste, who was born in 1924 – the last time Paris hosted the Summer Olympics – needs a walker to move around, but his memory is fresh. Fernand Decanali, Pierre Adam, Serge Blusson and Charles Coste stand atop the podium at the 1948 Olympics. “There was no TV then, our only goal was to get the gold medal.

Long before Alexis Wright was a towering figure in Australian letters, she took notes during community meetings in remote outback towns. Put to task by Aboriginal elders, her job was to take down their every word in longhand. The work was laborious, and it soothed her youthful fervor for the change that seemed all too slow to arrive. “It was good training, in a way,” she said in a recent interview at a public library close to the University of Melbourne, where until 2022 she held the role of Boisbouvier Chair in Australian Literature. “They were teaching you to listen, and they were teaching you patience.”Wright, 73, is arguably the most important Aboriginal Australian — or simply Australian — writer alive today.

CNN —Three people were killed and nine others were injured when a privately owned hangar under construction collapsed on airport property in Idaho’s capital of Boise on Wednesday evening, city officials said. Of the nine injured survivors, five were in critical condition and receiving care at hospitals on Wednesday night, city officials said. “There was a large-scale collapse of the building, the framework of the building. “It was fairly catastrophic.”The building under construction was not a city facility and airport operations were not affected, Hummel said. The construction was not an airport project, Rebecca Hupp, the airport director, said during the news conference.

Australia outclass Finland to return to Davis Cup final

MALAGA, Spain, Nov 24 (Reuters) - Australia reached a second successive Davis Cup final when Alex de Minaur overpowered Emil Ruusuvuori 6-4 6-3 after Alexei Popyrin beat Otto Virtanen 7-6(5) 6-2 to earn the 28-time champions a 2-0 win over Finland on Friday. "Extremely proud moment but I could have not done it without these guys," De Minaur said, pointing to his team. Popyrin, a late switch for the injured Thanasi Kokkinakis, grabbed the first break in the second set when Virtanen hit two successive double faults as Australia sensed an opportunity. "It's nerves that I've never experienced before in my life, the nerves playing the first tie, the first rubber of a Davis Cup, winning my first live rubber of a Davis Cup. De Minaur said Australia would be tricky opponents for any team in the final and tipped the doubles duo of Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell to play a vital role.

China’s message at the time was that even if change was coming to Hong Kong, its spirit of “anything goes” would be staying put. People gather outside a restaurant on a near-empty street in the Soho area of Hong Kong. Officials say they were “fluorescent.”A Hong Kong government spokesman told CNN this week that the activities were “well-received by local residents and tourists”. Under Hong Kong’s pandemic restrictions, live music was all but banned in small venues for more than 650 days. Months before the virus emerged, China had been tightening its grip on Hong Kong in response to pro-democracy protests that had spread throughout the city.

Combined, those two factors can make it very challenging to break into the housing market. Currently, it represents about 3% of the housing market, although that rises to 5% among first-time buyers, according to NAR. Imagining a 20% down payment, for instance, may cause potential buyers to throw up their hands in despair. So there is wiggle room, and you might be more equipped to buy on your own than you think.”Nonetheless, the harsh realities of the housing market may dictate more co-buying in future. With high prices and high interest rates, some potential buyers may not have much of a choice – and this relative rarity in the real estate world may soon become more common.

It’s no secret that nonalcoholic cocktails are suddenly ubiquitous. Whereas until a few years ago, nondrinkers had to make do with cranberry-splashed club soda, now seemingly every noteworthy bar offers a phony Negroni or a margarita-inspired mocktail. Today, the best bitter aperitifs (the term for nonalcoholic alternatives to spirits like Campari and Aperol) have all the complexity and layered flavors of their boozy counterparts. — Oliver StrandVideo Credit Credit... The awards have been presented in the Windy City since 2015 and are set to remain there through 2027. Like last year, much of the 2023 show was focused on showcasing the new push for greater diversity. The James Beard Foundation has been mired in controversy over the past few years. The winner of the South category, Natalia Vallejo, is the first Puerto Rican native to win a James Beard Award. Here’s the full list of the 2023 James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards nominees.

Bryan Christopher Kohberger, who is accused of fatally stabbing four University of Idaho students, changed the title of his car five days after the murder. The records redacted Kohberger's name but the license plate listed in the application matches the license plate shown in police body camera video when Indiana law enforcement pulled over Kohberger and his father. The pair was stopped on Dec. 15, by deputies in Hancock County, Indiana, for allegedly following a vehicle too closely. He was released with a verbal warning, only to be stopped nine minutes later by Indiana State Police for the same traffic infraction. He appeared in court Tuesday in Monroe County, Pennsylvania and waived extradition.
Police in Idaho have arrested a woman in connection with the disappearance of 6-year-old Michael Vaughan, who has been missing for over a year, officials said. Michael Vaughan. Michael's house and the house Wondra was living in are about four minutes apart, according to KTVB. Police continued to search the backyard of Wondra's home on Tuesday, where crews intend to dig three or four feet deep, Huff told KTVB. We have not found anything yet, but we will continue to excavate in hopes of finding his remains,” Huff told KTVB at the scene on Saturday.
Four people were found dead at a residence near the University of Idaho, police in the city of Moscow said. "Information will be updated as soon as next of kin is notified and we have information we can share." In a tweet later, the university lifted its shelter-in-place recommendation and said police said they believed there was no active threat to the student community. Officers were sent to the residence on King Road, about a half-block from campus, just before noon, the department said. "The Moscow Police Department gives our heartfelt condolences to family members, friends and the Moscow community," Berrett said.
